Edema or 'swelling' as may be called, & in some cases must be considered as Lymphedema. The initial causes for the formation of swelling are different however, results in accumulation of fluid in the soft tissue of the skin due to a dynamic or mechanical insufficiency of the lymphatic system. Edema may affect the entire body or certain parts of the body. Edema is a symptom rather than a disease in itself that can be caused by several conditions, such as Congestive heart failure, chronic venous insufficiency, immobility such as paralysis, pregnancy, and pressure from tight garments or jewelry. In all cases, pooling of fluid can cause imbalances in the lymphatic system. Treatment: At LPVie, we understand that Edema takes place when there is a dynamic insufficiency of Lymphatic system. General treatment to treat Edema involves: - Lymphatic drainage of the regional nodes. - lymphatic massage of the region to drain Lymph capillaries. - Protection of the skin from invading microbes, if necessary. - Elevation of the limb to assist in drainage, if applicable. - Movement of the limb in order to assist with the drainage. - Compression garments, if applicable (pricing will vary depending on the bandaging or garments used).
