Lymphedema Treatment - 60 Minutes
Reduce Lymphoedematous Swelling
Service Description
Contrary to Edema, Lymphedema is a disease rather than a symptom. Its underlying cause is the insufficiency of parts of the lymphatic system which can not be reversed as of known methods. Lymphedema is a chronic medical condition. It results in an abnormal accumulation of water & proteins. If not addressed on time, it can and often leads to disfiguring swelling in one or more parts of the body. The onset of Lymphedema is gradual in some patients while most patients develop Lymphedema after surgery and/ or radiation therapy for various cancers. Patients can develop it without obvious cause at different stages in life, still, others develop it after trauma such as deep vein thrombosis or parasitical infection. Lymphedema is serious because of its long-term physical and psychosocial consequences for patients. It continues to progress if left untreated. Treatment: At LPVie, the goal of lymphedema management is to reduce the lymphoedematous swelling to a normal or near normal size utilizing remaining healthy lymph vessels and other lymphatic pathways. We understand that Lymphedema patients require specialized therapeutic treatments. We apply Dr. Vodder's Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD techniques for the treatment known as Complete Decongestive Therapy, CDT; an internationally recognized standard of lymphedema treatment. CDT is recognized as a therapy of choice for lymphedema by many international and national societies and associations concerned with lymphedema. Once the lymphedema is decongested, the secondary goal is to maintain the reduction and to prevent the re-accumulation of lymph fluid. This requires an ongoing self-care dedication routine to be followed by client along with the help of LPVie. A Complete Decongestive therapy (CDT) includes: Step 1: Dr. Vodder's MLD Treatment. Step 2: Bandaging (pricing will vary depending on the bandaging or garments used). Step 3: Lymphedema skincare. Step 4: Decongestive exercises. NOTE: Treatment prices above do not include bandaging.
